Y House, The Capers

A restrained Japandi interior shaped by warmth, light, and quiet spatial clarity

This old house transformation redefines the residence through a calm and highly curated interior language inspired by Japandi principles, balancing warmth, functionality, and spatial clarity. Previously, the homeowners had renovated the house solely through a contractor-led approach, resulting in an outcome that lacked cohesion and did not fully reflect their expectations or lifestyle needs.

Spatial clarity shaped through thoughtful planning

For this renovation, the family engaged an interior designer to create a more thoughtful and personalised living environment tailored specifically to their daily routines and long-term practicality.

Curved architectural gestures soften the open-plan interior with warmth, clarity, and spatial flow

The refurbishment involved a complete overhaul of the house, including new wall, floor, and ceiling finishes, as well as upgraded wiring and plumbing systems to improve both functionality and long-term comfort. A cohesive palette of natural timber, soft mineral-toned surfaces, and muted textures was carefully curated to create visual continuity throughout the home.

Rich walnut joinery and soft mineral surfaces create a warm, restrained kitchen composition

Rooted in the fusion of Japanese simplicity and Scandinavian warmth, the interior embraces clean lines, tactile materials, and understated detailing to establish a serene and timeless atmosphere. Material selections were chosen to balance aesthetics, durability, and ease of maintenance according to the family’s lifestyle and preferences.

Soft material contrasts and integrated joinery shape a restrained yet functional kitchen experience

Spatial planning was carefully designed around the movement and routines of a family of four, with particular attention given to the homeowner’s role as a housewife who frequently films lifestyle content within the home.

Warm walnut tones and concealed storage establish a calm, quietly intimate sleeping environment

Soft curves, filtered daylight, and gentle tones shape a calm and playful children’s bedroom

Open visual connections, integrated storage, layered lighting, and custom-built joinery maximise functionality while maintaining a calm and visually refined environment. Warm walnut finishes, curved architectural details, and soft natural light complete the home with an intimate and contemporary character.
