Saint-Gobain PRIMA for Bako National Park Kuching
Developed by Sarawak Forestry Corporation, nestled within the lush rainforest of Bako National Park, Kuching, Sarawak, the accommodation facilities offer visitors a unique opportunity to stay immersed in nature while experiencing one of Malaysia’s most iconic national parks. However, building in such an environment presents significant challenges. Located in the heart of a tropical rainforest, the accommodation is constantly exposed to high humidity, frequent rainfall, intense heat, and the risk of termite and fungal attacks, all of which can affect building durability, occupant comfort, and long-term maintenance costs. To address these challenges, the project incorporated Saint-Gobain PRIMA® building solutions, specifically selected for their ability to perform in Malaysia’s hot and humid climate.
For the project’s ceiling and floor applications, PRIMAFlex® was selected for its exceptional performance and versatility. As a lightweight yet structurally strong fibre cement board, PRIMAFlex® offers excellent workability while delivering outstanding fire resistance, termite resistance, fungus resistance, and weather resistance. Its smooth, flat, and uniform surface ensures a high-quality finish, while its excellent sound insulation and better heat insulation contribute to greater comfort and energy efficiency. Being 100% asbestos-free, low maintenance, impact resistant, dimensionally stable, and cost-effective, PRIMAFlex® provides a reliable solution for long-term performance.
For internal wall partitioning, the project incorporated PRIMALiner® 9.0mm, a fibre cement board designed to withstand demanding environmental conditions. PRIMALiner® is immune to permanent moisture damage, making it an ideal choice for durable interior wall applications. Its termite-resistant properties, high impact strength, and fire-resistant performance enhance building safety and longevity. In addition, the board provides good sound insulation, helping to create quieter and more comfortable indoor spaces. As a climate-friendly solution, PRIMALiner® supports sustainable construction practices while maintaining superior performance standards.
PRIMALattice® 6.0mm decorative flat sheets with square profile design, a practical solution that combines durability with design flexibility. Designed to withstand exposure to moisture and harsh weather, the board is resistant to water, termites, rot, and fire, ensuring reliable performance in outdoor applications. Its excellent workability allows architects and contractors greater freedom in creating distinctive façade shading and fencing designs, while its decorative appeal enhances the overall appearance of the building. Requiring minimal upkeep and manufactured without asbestos, PRIMALattice® offers a cost-effective and energy-efficient alternative for contemporary exterior screening solutions.
Completing the project’s architectural detailing, PRIMAPlank® was installed for wall lining and fascia board applications, adding both durability and visual appeal to the development. Manufactured from cellulose fibre reinforced cement, PRIMAPlank® is highly durable and designed to resist fungus, termites, harsh weather conditions, water stains, and fire. Its decorative and aesthetic finish enhances the overall appearance of the building while maintaining long-term structural integrity. Combining strength, resilience, and attractive design, PRIMAPlank® delivers a low-risk, high-value solution for projects that demand both performance and aesthetics.
